Answer #1

(A) Copy and paste the data set into excel sheet

then select the data set

click on insert tab, then select scatter plot

we get the following scatter plot for the given data set

(B) Looking the data points in the scatter plot, it looks like that the y values are increasing with increase in x value

this means that there might be some positive relationship between x and y values

So, we can say that variable x and y are positively related with each other and strength of association is not strong.

Consider the observations jointly taken on the binary random variables X and Y given in the “Problem 1” worksheet in the Excel spreadsheet titled “Sheet 1”. 1. Organize the data in a two-way table by counting the number of observations that fall within each of the following cells: {X = 0, Y = 0}, {X = 0, Y = 1}, {X = 1, Y = 0}, and {X = 1, Y = 1}. 2. The SAT and the ACT are the two major standardized tests that colleges use to evaluate candidates. Most students take just one of these tests. However, some students take both. The data data141.dat gives the scores of 60 students who did this. How can we relate the two tests? (a) Plot the data with SAT on the x axis and ACT on the y axis. Describe the overall pattern and any unusual observations. (b) Find the least-squares regression line and...

The file P17_05.xlsx contains data on 100 consumers who drink beer. Some of them prefer light beer, and others prefer regular beer. A major beer producer believes that the following variables might be useful in discriminating between these two groups: gender, marital status, annual income level, and age. b. Consider a new customer: male, married, income $42,000, age 47. Use the logistic regression equation to estimate the probability that this customer prefers Regular.
