Post a brief description of your racial and ethnic identities; that is, how do you define your race and ethnicity? After reading about the constructionist model, explain how it influences your racial and ethnic identities. In your explanation, include specific references that are personal to your racial and ethnic identity. Finally, briefly explain what you see are the benefits and limitations of a constructionist approach to one’s identity.
Race and ethnicity is born and spewn through a shared understanding of a commonality that links us all, those from the presumably same culture.
Hence, race and ethnic identities are born out of the constructionist perspective, from wherein a shared assumption is followed and believed.
Race, for instance, under the light of constructionism, is something that has been given impetus to after communication with one another, with people of similiar shared assumptions. And due to the concept of globalization these shard assumptions are disseminated and are believed to be true as well as help create demarcation between other races and ethnicities.
This has, of course, created a sense of unity amongst the ones who share commonality, but has also created stereotypes and dogmatic opinions about others.
