Find a video of a speech online. It might be a commencement address by Fred rogers (“Mr. rogers”), a presidential speech, or one of the examples on the site that goes with this book. Listen to it once, straight through; then listen to it again while taking notes. How different was your experience? Did you “hear” the same speech the second time, or a different one?
While hearing the commencement Address by Mr. Roger's, it was interesting to note that the first time that I heard it, it was a shallow hearing wherein the mind was wandering by the grasping of one word into another stream of thought of connectifiers, only to pay attention to the video again later on.
But, when listening to the video again later on while taking notes, it became apparent that the mind was not digress ing as much and their was a propensity of listening closely and understanding all that he was saying about his experiences in Dartmouth, the sly remarks and the clever witty jokes.
