Is there anything special about problems that seem to be solved in a flash of “insight”? cognitive psychology
Problems that can be solved with insight are generally those, where the solution just pops out in the problem solver's mind after the problem is restructured in a different way.Matcalfe and Weibe (1987) described the feeling of being near a solution as warmth, in non insight problems the warmth was felt steadily increasing with each step, in non- insight problems this warmth is experienced as a sudden burst which presents a clear solution to the problem.Such problems call for productive thinking rather than expert knowledge.
