How do you think the medical model would explain children of alcoholic parents who never develop alcoholism? What's the difference?
Medical model suggests that abnormal behavior is the result of physical problems that need to be treated. Children of alcoholic parents who don’t develop alcoholism see how much their parents struggled physically and thus resulting in abnormal behaviors. This behavior often would have involved violent behaviors as well and they would have also experienced ill treatment from their parents. This lack of familial attachment because of the drunken behaviors of the parents force them to hate alcohol and whoever take alcohol because they would normally generalize that people who drink alcohol will behave abnormally and won’t take care of their family. So, this makes them resilient towards alcoholism and helps them remain away from alcohol.
