Does rehabilitation treat offenders as moral agents? Does it violate their freedom of being an individual? Aren’t we, in essence, telling them that they’re “broken” and we can fix them?
Yes, it is agreeable that rehabilitation treat offenders as moral agents because their bad choice of morality someone has been harmed by them. It doesn't not violate their freedom of being an individual as it is providing them a chance to be a better human being and to use their freedom with responsibility, so that their freedom doesn't cause harm to other individuals in the society. Though it's partially correct that rehabilitation is an attempt to mend the "broken", but, it not forced by us upon them, it's giving them a chance to enhance their lives so that they can live with their individual freedom that doesn't interfers with others right to live in harmony and with dignity.
