We've looked at some of the ways black men have been victimized
racially and sexually. Simply stated, what are some of the reasons,
societally speaking, that we are less inclined to discuss black
male pain in this way?
Draw upon Thomas Foster's "The Sexual Abuse of Black Men Under
Slavery" in your response.
“The sexual abuse of black men under slavery” is written by Thomas A Foster. This book is about the how the enslaved black men were exploited, humiliated and sexually abused.
Slavery had an immense impact on the concept of black body. During the late 18th century in America the horror of institution of slavery laid the foundation stone for the dehumanization and commodification of the black body and that continued for the coming hundreds of years. Under the concept of the black bodies being an object, the white slave owners with this preoccupied thought sexually abused their black slaves. There are many reasons that led to the commodification of the black persons which includes societal, spiritual, economic and partisan factors.
Some more factors led to the objectification of the black bodies and the negative influence of the market force cannot be underestimated as the key factor in moulding how persons were viewed as an object that were made just for harassment.
Black men are often labelled as sexual marauders and were beleaguered for murdering based on their supposed danger to white women and this disseminated a description which vindicated that men of black colour are often criminalized.
Black men are considered as felons. Men of colour are terrified of the police and of law administrations because of upsetting pasts with these institutions and they always have the fear that talking about their exploitation could entrap them in a race biased justice system which might stop them from talking about their exploitation
