Government schools are everyday defining the culture of the nation our children will live in, and they are doing it in violstion of what the American people want. What are your thoughts on whether government should define our culture?
Government schools do indeed define the culture of the nation for our children and religious expression has been much debated about in these institutes. Schools are therefore forbidden from promoting a particular religion. However these practices are allowed to be conducted beyond the school hours. In fact, schools should ensure that a culture of creating sensitivity towards all belief systems is created. The focus must be on the basic virtues that one requires for life such as compassion, empathy and unconditional positive regard for all. This essentially means that schools must take the onus of promoting multicultural attitude and an overall acceptance for all, despite of their class, race, religion, gender or any other difference that may eventually lead to discrimination. The youth must learn how to fight these social evils and bring about a change in the society by first attempting to unlearn their own negative belief systems and thoughts. This in itself is a huge responsibility that lies on the schools per se. The cultural values and elements can therefore be imparted to the youthh through these mechanisms.
