I believe opposites attract theory is only valid for chemistry point of view , where a positive particle attracts a negative and a negative particle attracts a positive particle.

In the real practical life , if one dates a completely opposite partner , they would end up fighting with each other as they will have many differences. There will be a lot a compatibility issues in between them , and they won't feel comfortable in each other's company.

The partners who are like minded and have similar personalities , tend to become a better couple as they can understand each other very well , and hence become a constant support for their counter parts.
