Answer #1

The purpose of reentry planning is to prepare inmates to lead adaptive lives after their release. Reentry planning identifies specific needs of the inmate, usually covering areas such as housing, continuity of care for medical, mental health, and substance abuse treatment, health insurance, employment, social security and disability benefits, probation and parole coordination, victim and public safety notifications, obtaining identity documents, and linkages to community resources. Reentry planning should begin when an inmate is committed and should intensify with the nearing of their release.
