Manipulated check is a measure used to determine whether an independent variables in a study varies in ways researcher expect. This is done to confirm that the independent variable was in fact sucessfully manipulated.
Types:
1. Instructional manipulation check: To check whether rspondants are giving attention to the instructions or not. Discarding the responses of participants who are not going through the instructions. It increases the statistical power of the experiment. The instruction for any study is important. This gives the clear picture about the study and what they have to do. It helps to eliminate the unwanted responses.
Example: In a study to measure the effect of alcohol on behaviour. In instruction it is celarly mentioned about the age group or group of people targeted. In this case the researcher can go as per the instruction and eliminate the responses who are not in this group. It helps him to get the desired result.
2. Stimulus manipulation test: Stimulus is something that incite to action or exertion, It causes an action or responses. Different stimuls gives different responses. Manipulation of stimulus is help researcher to get desired result.
Example : Play bad music before playing a good music to show the changes in mood of people. Here the researcher manipulated the stimuli to elicite required result.
