What is a prophet? Come up with one of your own in a sentence or two.
With social injustice in mind, find the story of a person with a cause to make life on this planet better, who fosters a collective examination of conscience, pushing for social justice and change.
In addition to your definition of a prophet, what is it that makes the figure you chose prophetic, and how does his/her story reflect a social justice principle or principles? What is that moves this person to act and speak?
A prophet is a self actualized individual who fights for others in order to bring them out of oppression. They inspire and persuade people to raise their voice against social, economical, racial and political oppression. A prophet also points out the deficiencies in one’s own people thus changing them for good.
Social injustice is an unfair treatment of one group of people by the other. Normally, majority people control and suppress the minority and it’s considered to be normal for long. The injustice could be expressed and practiced in politics, economy and in society. Although there were lots of prophets in the Bible including Jesus, I would like to bring Martin Luther King as one of the best prophets in the world from recent times. Although slavery was abolished a long back black people were treated like slaves in the community without much rights. He fought against the cruelty of white people and demanded equality for Blacks. He inspired and motivated black people to join the struggle because at least the future generations will have their rights. He, with his ‘I have a dream’ speech prophesied that black people will live side by side with white people and the day was not too far. Finally he was killed but today black people live on par with the white community.
