(Answer) Emotional Intelligence is the ability to understand, regulate and manage the emotions of oneself and perhaps of those around you. It is this acute sense of understanding and calibrating emotions in order to acquire the desired result from thoughts, words or actions.
The four elements required for emotional intelligence are the variables for emotional intelligence theory. These elements are:
Self-Awareness – Sarah is aware that she is simply nervous and that this nervousness is to be properly managed in order to achieve a greater goal.
Self-Management – This is the variable that best describes Sarah as she has properly managed her overwhelming emotions in order to complete the difficult task of sending in her application for college.
Social-Awareness – This is where Sarah is aware of how essential a college education is in a social context and she has managed her emotions in a way that would best help her fulfil these social requirements.
Social-Skills – In emotional intelligence, social skills would entail tailoring one’s emotions in a way that would best help an individual fit the requirements of the situation or the social environment. This is exactly what Sarah did by overcoming her nervousness and actually doing what the situations demanded.
