A mental health counsellor is someone who holds a masters degree and tends to work with less severe mental health issues. These include stress management, family and relationship issues, anxiety and alcohol abuse related concerns. As opposed to this, a psychologist is someone who additionally holds a doctoral degree and is a researcher in the field. However, they are not permitted to prescribe drugs to clients. A psychiatrist on the other hand is a practitioner in the medical field with a specialization in psychiatry which makes them legit to prescribe medicines. All the three are practitioners in that sense, but the degree of severity that they deal with differs in very many ways.
