Critics of the government’s “war on drugs” maintain that attention to street drugs is misplaced, given that America’s drug of choice is alcohol, and that there are more alcohol-related crimes, deaths, and health problems than those associated with marijuana, cocaine, crack, and hallucinogens. What is your opinion about the exclusion of alcohol from talk and action against drugs? Do you think the government should include alcohol? Why or why not?
Though alcohol is the most harmful drugs among all, the exclusion of alcohol from talk and action against drugs is still justifiable. As seen in the aftermaths of "war on drugs", prisons are overflooded by the drug laws violators. Even though the number of people taking other forms of drugs combined won't be even near to the numbers of alcohol users, still prisons are filled with inmates. It is very drastic to imagine a situation when alcohol is considered an illegal drug.
I don't think the government should include alcohol in the said list. It will worsen the situation of high-incarceration especially among the African-American diaspora leading to internal instability. People should be in the streets and working for a country to function well. If drinking alcohol will be considered as an offense, too many resources including human and material resources will get waste, which no country should afford.
