Basic emotions are innate emotions associated with high survival value. These emotions are hard wired in our system since time in memorable, therefore,they are universal. Infants are born with these set of basic emotions that are spontaneous and expressive.On the other hand complex emotions are rather acquired and learned social emotions formed by interaction with the world around in an infant of which basic emotions become a building blocks. Hence, complex emotions do not emerge until the very end of infancy.
