What do you consider "construct an ethical argument" to mean?
Constructing an ethical argument means reframing an ethical argument. The frame used may be principle-based; according to which an act is considered right or wrong because it abides or violates the certain principle. For example, the death penalty may be considered wrong as it violates the sanctity of life. It may be consequence based as well. According to this, an act is good or bad depending upon the consequence. Capital punishment is considered wrong as it may lead to the punishment of an innocent person.
While constructing an argument it is an arguer’s duty to show, which principle is being used in the argument along with the justification for using it. He or she has to show why it is more important than the opposing principle. In constructing a consequence based argument we have to consider the positive benefits of the negative costs. The principle-based approaches are based on the Kantian categorical imperative concept. The consequence-based approach is based on the utilitarian approach to ethics.
