Eight Elements of Thought and Reasoning
There are eight elements of thought in reasoning. We often use more than one element at the same time. For example, your Point of View includes Assumptions. Therefore, we can assume that these elements are two aspects of the same thing.
For your assignment this week, first begin by analyzing eight elements of thought and reasoning and re-organize them into four distinct categories by pairing elements together.
Next, briefly describe each new category you created and present your reasoning for each category. Include the characteristics of the original eight elements in your descriptions and the reasoning behind your pairings

Below is an example of what one category may look like. You are free to pair any elements together if you can define their relationship to one another. Focus on the reasoning behind each pairing. That is what is most important in this exercise!

Category 1: How do I see it?
Point of View: The place from where I see things
Assumption: Information that is taken for granted; Preconceived notions
Explanation: I paired point of view and assumptions together in the same category because assumptions form your point of view. You cannot form a point of view without having assumptions first.
Example: My assumption is that short people are not good at basketball. My younger cousin is 5’ 3’’ and is terrible at the sport. Therefore, my point of view is that no short people can play basketball professionally.
Your completed assignment should be written primarily in first person and should be 500-750 words in length. If you use sources in your writing, be sure to identify them. If you use any direct language from a source, be sure to place those words in quotation marks.

Thinking is the focal movement in wise reasoning. It is the procedure by which information is connected to accomplish the greater part of our objectives. In spite of the fact that an issue can be once in a while being unraveled by coordinate recovery of an answer from memory, that is uncommon. Most issue to be illuminated or choice to be taken have only here and there been experienced beforehand in indistinguishable frame. Thus, we should recover important data from memory and work out how best to apply it. We make reasonings that is we reach unequivocal determinations that were just inactive in our convictions or we make acceptance speculations some canny suppositions that go past the data given.
The eight basic structures are present in all thinking and reasoning are part of the Critical Thinking. Following are 8 structures:
1. Information: Data evidence, observations what all supporting we need to answer the question?
2. Assumptions: belief, presupposition
3. Implications and consequences: followed from thought, what would it lead to?
4. Point of View: Perspective or understanding
5. Interpretations & Conclusion: consider all possible consequences, reasonings for implication and consequences.
6. Concepts: theories, laws, hypothesis etc.
7. Purpose – what we trying to achieve or accomplish?
8. Question: What we trying to answer?
Categorising the above structures in following 4 groups.
Category 1: Find-My-Views
Point of View: The way I think or see or observe things, seeing it from my perspective
Assumption: What I would accept to be valid without having verification of such.
Explanation: I feel that I combined these two together on the grounds that they share similar attributes. My perspective about something is driven by my presumptions of it.
Examples: My assumption is dieting lead to lose weight. My cousin is dieting with her own self-made chart but it is not affecting. So, my point of view that she need professional who can guide her what will help her to lose weight.
Category 2: Fact-Of-Matter
Information: Facts, data evidence, personal expertise or experiences
Concept: Theories, principles, laws which make sense.
Explanation: I paired point of view and information because somewhere “personal experience” plays a critical role in both the aspect of thinking.
Explanation The two of these being paired together makes sense to me because if I have a concept or a theory about something then I must gather the facts or information to prove myself or my theory correct
Examples: Concept says their professional diet chart which helps in reducing weight faster. Hence there is the explanation from various professional with various principles and science behind the same.
Category 3: Paying the Cost
Interpretation: my action would have an implication. What I would use to reach my decisions when figuring things
Implication & Consequences: are the claims were logical or illogical. Are the cases or certainties that legitimately take after from different cases or realities?
Explanation: Because they are a subdivision of cause and effect. Implication and consequence can be used simultaneously.
Example: I interpreted the question wrong. Therefore, the implication would be that I would answer the question in a wrong manner and consequence would be I might or might not get negative marking.
Category 4: What is it?
Purpose: What the purpose? What you looking for? what we need to accomplish and achieve?
Question: what we trying to answer?
Explanation: Both are paired because both the aspect sharing same characteristic " what we looking".
