Explain how the various dimensions of the masculine role and feminine role can lead to role conflict. What is the relationship between traditional gender socialization and violence against women, specifically wife abuse? What policy suggestions can reduce the incidences of domestic violence in the United States?
The roles of genders have evolved over time greatly. In older days, there was a specific boundary between what men should do and what women should do. In most societies women were suppressed. But within the past 5 decades or so, women have started taking up a lot of roles that were previously deemed to be men's and vice versa. This leads to a role conflict because when women want to do what men used to do, men don't want to do what women used to do and vice versa. Hence the division of roles is not clear. Traditional gender socializing increases violence against women. For example, women in most societies were made to work without rest and were physically abused for that.
Some ways by which domestic violence can be reduced are:
Providing more center's for women where they can share their problems and legally consult someone, making domestic violence a criminal offense, educating people on how to deal with domestic violence, making legal proceedings easier.
