What would it be like to live in the body of someone else? Since the dawn of mankind, people have imagined what it would be like to inhabit another body, just for a day or even for a few minutes. Thanks to the magic of VR, we can now do that, says Jeremy Bailenson of the Virtual Human Interaction Lab, Stanford University. https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkScience/videos/1556750694437049/
This video sheds light with respect to how being able to technology to inhabit another body can, infact, increase empathy. This occurs through a cognitive and emotional process referred to as perspective taking, which can now be conducted in (virtual) reality. All too often, we are preoccupied with the difficulties of our own lives and tend to discount the feelings and opinions of others. However, this technology can permit us to “walk a mile on somebody else’s shoes” to experience their lives and relate to them better.
