You are in a racecar and aim for a speed contest on an L=10.0 km long race road. Your car has been optimized for efficiency and has a maximum speed of v 1 =322 km/h.

a) How many seconds does it take you to drive 10.0 km at maximum speed? (3 points)

b) You hear rumors that the car of an opponent has a maximum speed of v 2 =362 km/h. If you both start the race with constant maximum speed v 1 and v 2 , how far from the finish in km would you be when you opponent’s car reaches it?

(5 points)

c) Luckily your opponent’s car is not fuel efficient and has to start slowing down for a pit stop after l=5.0 km to fuel up. The fueling up alone takes t fu =10.0 seconds. To and from the pit stop, the car has a constant de-acceleration and acceleration with a magnitude of a=11.2 m/s 2 . Draw a velocity vs. time and acceleration vs. time graph (does not to be quantitative) and label the relevant quantities. (5 points)

d) Calculate the total time in seconds that your opponent needs to finish the race. Who wins? (10 points)

You are running to catch a bus which has just started to move away from the stop. You are on a flat, straight road and you and the bus both start from zero velocity at time t = 0 s. Draw a velocity vs time and a position vs time to reinforce your answer Given the data below: Object Acceleration Stamina Human 0-30km/hr in 5 seconds Can go at top speed for 10 seconds Bus 0-50km/hr in 15 seconds Can...

Pretend you are a technical advisor to a film shoot in a spy movie. You have to determine the motion of a get-away car so that it arrives in front of a casino exactlyat the moment James Bond comes out of the front door. The scene will be shot from above (from a helicopter) so the motion of the car from where it is initially parked tothe casino will be shot as one scene. To ensure that the car appears...

A jet accelerates at a=3.92 m/s^2 from rest until it reaches its takeoff velocity of 360 km/hr. It has to travel for 5 seconds at its takeoff velocity before taking off. What's the minimum distance that the jet will travel on the runway? A car backs up at a constant speed for a short time, then applies the brakes and steadily comes to rest. Sketch velocity-time and position-time graphs that depict the car's motion. Assume that the forward direction is...
