What differences do you need to take into account when observing Saturn vs observing the moon?
The planet Saturn is a very small target in terms of the telescopic power. It is only 21 arcseconds in diameter and that too in a very favorable conditions. The ring system makes the whole planet's footprint as 2.25 times as larger. So most likely you will see a blurry image. So if you plan on observing Saturn you should make sure you are in a place which is totally free of any light contamination. Otherwise the chances of seeing it are very less.
Observing moon does not actually require any special astronomical observational skills and can be done by the amateurs. It is mainly a naked eye or binocular kind of observation. It can be carried out even in heavily light polluted areas.
