COVID-19 has been at the core of major supply chain center areas, including China, Europe and the United States. Compared with the previous year, industrial output in China dropped by 13.5 per cent in January and February combined. The pandemic has significant consequences for foreign development networks, which could leave a mark for years to come. In December 2019, infections with the then yet unexplained coronavirus started in Hubei Province of China. The Chinese authorities reacted to this epidemic by enforcing extreme controls on people's activities, essentially implementing curfews and quarantines throughout the country from late January. Latest monthly data from the US on overall imports indicates a drastic decline compared to February 2019 in imports of electronic and telecommunications hardware, motor vehicle bodies and trailers and other items affiliated with global supply chains in the US-Chinese nations. It's fair to say, though, that this data also partly represents rising trade conflicts between the US and China over the past year. Of note, it is much too early to completely measure the impact of disturbances to the supply chain related to the covid19 pandemic. However, it is now evident that China's initial downturn in productivity and exchange would have a significant effect on countries on the supply chain further up and down.
