Many authors have published articles on "best practices" in the area of global and virtual teams. Best practices are distinguished from guidelines or general practices in that best practices are supposed to be supported by empirical research. Based on your experience and knowledge, should all best practices be applied to all organizations or are there some differences that need to be considered prior to implementing best practices?
As per my experience, take every learning or observation with a pinch of salt. First requirement is to check suitability of that practice to your organization. In order to implement a best practice you need to align your practices with that of the reference organization. Most best practices may not suit your organization. For e.g.: IT oganization need cooperation and liberty to work while manufacturing can't go if liberty is given to employees.Often it is important to understand, to what extent can the practices be applied and what your reference organziation has been through to get the practices in place. You need to understand if your organization is willing to pay such a kind of cost too.
