Answer 1: A Trunkline is a pipeline used to transport natural gas and crude oil throughout various countries or states.

Whereas A Gathering line is a comparatively smaller and shorter pipeline used to transport natural gas from a production facility to the main transmission pipeline or the Trunk Line.

So, in a way, Trunkline is dependent on the Gathering line for supply of the gas to be transported further and without a Trunk Line, the job done by Gathering line would be futile.

Conclusion: Both Trunk Line and Gathering Line are necessary to complete the gas and oil transportation successfully.
