What kind of information do you have to gather in order to answer a research question?

The kind of information that is required to be gathered in order to answer a research question depends highly on the type of question. To start with, it is expected that a student research about the topic to fully understand it and then make a framework for answering it.

In case of Quantitative research questions like "What was the impact of gasoline price increase on the purchase of new cars in the year 2017?"

This question would require quantitative data to answer it.

In case of a question like " How did Obama helped in improving U.S. Economy/"

This kind of questions would require both quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data usually refers to figures while Qualitative data refers to facts, claims, ideas, opinions etc.

It is important that while gathering information only primary and secondary resources should be used. The sources used should be scholarly or professional.
