Real-life ethical dilemmas: A preventable disaster, the space
shuttle Challenger.
- The Space Shuttle Challenger program was launched despite the
concerns of program eneginers on the safety of the people engaged
in the shuttle. The program enegineers were not very happy with the
safety standards of the Space Shuttle Challenger and but they did
not whown high stress on this point infront of management.
- NASA management focus and leepthe decion more of launching the
program rather than the safety of the astronuats.
- NASA was awrae of the design flws of O ring and the issues in
the O ring design and aware that the program has potetinal for
disaster.
Stakeholders business interest were included in the decision to
launch the Challenger in the space.
The "Care of
people" voice of stakeholders was missing from the discussion as
mainly due tobelow points
- The life of the astronuats are less improtant than the launch
of the program.
- The safety of the people is ignored against the deadlines of
the program.
- The improper decision was taken, even the NASA management was
aware that there is a potetial for disaster due to design issues in
O ring.
- The stakeholder was less seriours about the life of team
memebrs/project memebers.
- Explore of "Do let it to go approach"with the potential of loss
of human lifes of project teams due to potential disaster.
