System development failures have been discussed, written about, and held up as model of what not to do. At a point toward the end of the 1990’s, it was estimated that 75% of all the major system projects failed, were significantly over budget, or were completed late. Many did not meet customer (requester) expectations. Since this disastrous time, many companies have embraced formal project management professionals, tools, and commitment with significantly improved results.

2 Business reasons that can contribute to the system/project failure are :
1. Not adhering to timelines at different stages of the project . This can cause delay in the overall project completion date .this mainly is attributed to the fact that no metrics or tools are religiously followed while the project is progressing and also no formal mock ups are done at each stage of the project.
2. Another reason can be a delay in the business due to a critical resource not being available in time for project completion.This is mainly caused due to delay in hiring the right resources and not planning for correct hiring at different stages of the project
