The problem you will solve through your business report (generally, your topic)

The scope/limitation of your problem: how can you make this a manageable topic? For example, if you are focusing on the issue of a shortage of parking on college campuses, how can you limit this from looking at all colleges? You might decide to look only at the Lethbridge College parking situation, or at Lethbridge College and the University of Lethbridge. Limits can be geographical or temporal, for example.

The significance: why is it important to solve this problem now? Why is the problem pertinent today instead of last year, or ten years ago? If you think a shortage of parking at the Lethbridge College is a problem, maybe it is significant today because there are more students attending the College than ever before.

An outline of the research you hope to complete: where might you search for research about your problem and solutions? What might be helpful for you to research?

Answer #1

As contemplated in the example of the problem given in the question, I would take the same problem of limited parking space in the Selkirk College which is situated in Castlegar, British Columbia. The study of this problem has been limited to this college alone by not looking into any other colleges around by only including the students and staffs of this college and not getting any outsiders involved in the same.

And the significance of this topic today when compared to the last year or 10 years back is that today when compared to the past years, the use of vehicles say cars or any such have increased among the students. Students today depend on some or the other vehicles for coming to college and attending their part time job right after the college. But in the past years, students used to depend on public transportation for all this which did not require much so parking spaces in the college. At that point the parking lots were mainly for the professors and other staffs of the college or university.

So it is important that the authorities of the college arrange the required amount of parking space for accommodating all of its students without them being put in difficulty.

The outline of my study would be on the basis of the observation of parking lots during the peak times of the college and taking the counts of the vehicles with respect to the total number of students in the college. Thereafter I would also inquire with the students, professors and the security officials regarding their insights on the increase in the use of parking lots when compared to the past years. And also collect some photos of the parking lots from each year’s books.

This would be used as the main source of information for my research and analysis.
