Homework Answers

Answer #1

Assembly line concept is the most efficient operation when the requirement is to produce in volume, Since volume is the key requirement, there cannot be much delay in frequent changeover and set ups. If frequent changeover has to be avoided, the product specs. Must be standardized so that once the machines in the assembly line is set to produce the desired specs, it will continue producing item after items with same specs. Without any changeover and thus achieving fastest and highest productivity.

Therefore, if a product is highly standardized and production volume will be high, the type of process which should best fit “ Assembly Line”

The Daltry Company manufactures a single product on a highly automated assembly line. Its costing system uses two cost categories, direct materials and conversion costs. Direct materials are added at the end of the production process. Conversion costs are allocated evenly throughout production. The company uses weighted-average process costing. Data for the Assembly Department for April are:       Work in process, beginning inventory                      400 units             Conversion costs (30% complete)       Units started during April                                      1,200 units       Work in...

What is the layout of the production process in a Publix sandwich counter (part of deli)? The sandwich stays in one place on the counter. Toppings and condiments are available in containers in front of the sandwich making counter. The cheese/meat is sometimes grabbed from a refrigerator below the counter, but often the worker (same as the one making the sandwich) walks over to the deli section, which is located a few feet away. There the worker slices the meat...
