1. LMX theory is particulary releevent to this case. It describes how relationship develop over time with different subordinates. As in this case Ed is trying to give his all the subordinates an equal chance to develop the relationship. Ed also develop a favourable exchange relationship with all his senior subordinate. He would also like to provide more responsibility, recognition and award to his subordinate.

2. Ed style of management is very effective one . If his maangement style should be used properly then only it can strengthen the relationship with his subordinates and it can also motivate their team to achive their objectives. it can also encourage employee to make their own decision. it can also motivate them to learn new skill and perform their job well.

3. Dan should provide suggestion to Ed that how he would solve the problem in their marketing unit. Dan should also instruct Ed that how to apply LMX theory to management practices. Dan should provide more guidence and coaching to Ed and help them to learn how to carry out leadership practices effectively.

Yes , the problem with the perception of the employees is the fact that followers they have different needs and motivation. No Ed did not did any wrong as a leader, as he only try to built closer relationship with his subordinate and also to motivate them to take their awn decision and perform his task effectively.
