How can one established good rapport and a good professional relationship with a patient in the work or clinical setting. What nonverbal and verbal techniques did you use in this relationship?

Verbal techniques to maintain a good rapport with patients:

  • Greeting everyone while they see or pass on like saying hello,good morning etc
  • Try to learn the names of the pateints and respond to them if they are in need
  • Ask if you can be their assistance in any way
  • Exchange pleasantaries and have good conversations with them
  • Always explain them what is happening and about their medication

Non verbal techniques:

  • Respond to complaints /concerns made by the patients or their family members
  • Listen to what patients have to say about their problems and try to fulfil their needs
  • Build trust,promote empowerment and encourage their voice and choice.
  • Always be alert for any unsupported notions you might have about a patient and work to overcome those ideas that you are communicating with them effectively.
  • Cultivate patience and have empathy and sympathy for them.
  • Project calmness and steadiness
