Sinus bradycardia

Definition:

Sinus bradycardia in simple refers to the decreased heart rate or slower heart rate which is less than 60 beats per minute

The SA node is called as the pace maker of the heart.The impulse generated from it reaches the AV node .When there is a block or dysfunction in transmission of this impulse from SA node to AV node alters the heart rate. This can affect the p wave generated.

This not considered to be much serious be ause this can occurs when one increases in their age or in elderly population. The athletes have a reduced heart rate most of the time.

Best treatment

• Non symptomatic:no treatment
• Symptomatic:
  • Beta blockers
  • Calcium channel blockers
  • Pacemaker
• Dietary modifications with low salt ,low fat
• Encouraging daily exercise as a routine.
