b) NPH ( intermediate acting )
c ) a premixed combination of NPH and regular called 70-30
Under the brand name of (Relion)
Supplied as 100units /ml (3ml vial)
100units/ml (10ml vial )
Given as dosage , form strength , frequency and ROA
1) subcutaneous injection-
0.2-0.4 units /kg/day SC divided 8hr or more frequently.
maintaenance - 0.5 -1 unit /kg / day SC 8hrly
as 2) insulin pumps
3) iv infusion - dose needs to individualised .
Mode of action - by stimulating peripheral glucose uptake primarily
by skeletal muscle cells and fat , and by inhibiting glucose
production and release by the liver . It inhibits lipolysis ,
proteolysis and gluconeogenesis .
