Special considerations apply to the administration of psychotropic medications to elderly patients such as;

Becoming aware of the full functional capacity of a geriatric client before initiating a psychopharmacologic medication.

Since the elderly patients are having a decline in renal and hepatic functioning with age and can also be more prone or sensitive to side effects. Hence the dose should be adequate but at a minimum level so that the side effects are least (Farinde, 2015)
