*Security patch is a peice of software designed to update a computer program or its supporting data,to fix or improve it.This includes fixing security vulnerabilities and other bugs ,with such patches usually called bugfixes and improving usability or performance.
*An update is act of updating something or an updated version of something.

The difference between a security patch and an update
A patchis basically a diff between two MSIdatabases of the same product(eg.v1.0.0 and v1.0.1)and can be installed only on target machines where its target MSIcompletely the old version,then install the new version of your product.
