In case of distributed database management system data cannot be easily controlled as it was the case with the centralized system since the data is replicated in multiple locations/sites and the access to the replicated data has to be controlled in multiple sites.

Chances of security lapse increases when the number of sites in which the data is stored increases.  In addition the network can be an insecure medium of communication so in case of the distributed database management system the network has to be secure.
