indications: infections with pseudomonas, e.coli, klebsiella, serratia, proteus.

contraindications: hypersensitivity

dose:

neonates less than 7 days -15-18mg/kg through iv / im

neonates more than 7 days - 18mg/kg through iv/ im

adverse effects:nephrotoxicity, neural damage, ototoxicity, autonomic disturbances, leukopenia

interactions: cisplatin, vancomycin, neostigmine, cephalosporin, amphotericin

nursing considerations:

perform blood tests

monitor peak levels

check for adverse effects

advice patient to take more fluids to avoid renal damage

patient education:
