Laryngalgia means laryngeal pain. (Laryng refers to larynx and algos refers to pain).
Aphonia means inabilty to produce sound, an the cause may be organic disease of the larynx or functional.
Dysphasia means difficulty in speaking. This may be due to brain lesion. There is a lack of coordination and an inability to arrange words in their correct order.
Pneumonitis means any inflamatory condition of the lung. (Itis means inflammation).
Bronchopneumonia is a descending infection starting around the bronchi and bronchioles. This inflammation nof the lung has consolidation and exudate formation.
Atelectasis is a collapsed and airless state of the lung. it might be acute or chronic and may involve any part of the lung.
mucolytic - a drug used to loosen the bronchial secretion in lung diseases.
Rhinoplasty - Plastic surgery of the nose, repairing a part or entire nose
choledocholithiasis - means presence of stones in the bile duct. ( lithiasis is stone formation)
sialography - it is the radiographic examination of the salivary ducts after introduction of a radio-opaque substance.
oximeter- a device used to measure the oxygen saturation of the blood. It is a photoelectric cell device.
eupnea - it is normal brething. (nea usually refers to respiration)
silicosis - fibrosis of the lung tissue due to inhalation of silica dust particles. in miners, quarry workers, etc
pneumoconiosis- industrial disease of the lung due to inhalation of dust particles over a period of time. exampe; anthracosis, asbestosis, silicosis, etc.
rhinorrhea - abnormal mucous dischrge from the nose as in common cold.
apnea- cessation of bretahing, no movement of respiratory muscles will be noted.
phrenic - is a term relating to the mind or diaphragm. Example; schizophrenia, phrenic nerve.
paracentesis- removal of excess peritoneal fluid using a needle from the peritoneal cavity as in ascites.
hemothorax - accumulation of blood in the pleural cavity leading to difficulty breathig and chest pain.
dysphonia- hoarseness. it referes to having abnormal voice.
