There is loss of one chromosome. For example in female if there is loss of one X chromosome then the condition is called as Monosomy.
Example - cri du chat syndrome is due to the partial loss of chromosome number 5.
Trisomy -the condition in which if there is extra copy of chromosome is present in cell nuclei called as Trisomy.
There is one chromosome is extra.
When one of the chromosome has three copies than two condition called Trisomy.
Example - down syndrome. There is extra copy of chromosome number 21
