The following are the factors that have been shown to increase a person odds of becoming one of the oldest-old:

1. Physical health: Physical health in terms of no serious injuries and proper functioning of all the physical and vital organs leads towards a longer life and improving the chance of becoming oldest-old

2. Mental health status: Absence of mental health issues can be a big benefit as out mental state runs of healthy and body and this affects the quality and span of life

3. Access to healthcare: Healthcare access in terms of insurance coverage and hospital facilities to prevent the illness and early detection of issues that can be resolved or prevented can help to live longer

4. Proper nutrition: Most of the geriatric illness have nutritional effects and a proper healthy diet and nutrition can help improve the health and leading to a longer life

5 Absence of comorbidities: Absence of underlying chronic and other health conditions is critical to living longer and geriatric population having two or more health conditions tend to have a shortened life span
