Saturated saturated fatty acids
- The predominantly contain single bonds in their fatty acid
chains and contain no double bonds.
- They are derived from both animal fats and plant oils.
- It is less healthful than unsaturated fatty acids
- They raise both HDL and LDL cholesterol which increase the risk
of cardiovascular diseases.
Monounsaturated fatty acids
- They are unsaturated fatty acids which contain only one double
bond in their fatty acid chain.
- Example is oleic acid
- It is one of the healthy fat.
- They help with weight loss, reduce the risk of heart disease
and decrease inflammation.
Polyunsaturated fatty acids
- They contain more than one double bond in their fatty acid
chain
- It is a type of dietary fat or healthy fat
- Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids are an example
- They are seen in walnuts, sunflower seeds etc.
