Answer #1

PICO is a format for formulating a research question in evidence based practice. Components include Population, Intervention,Comparison and Outcome. PICO is a mnemonic used to describe the four elements of a good clinical foreground question:

P: Population/Patient/Problem - How would I describe the problem or a group of patients similar to mine?

I = Intervention - What main intervention, prognostic factor or exposure am I considering?

C = Comparison - Is there an alternative to compare with the intervention?

O = Outcome - What do I hope to accomplish, measure, improve or affect?

A research or clinical question needs to be directly relevant to the patient or problem at hand and phrased in such a way as to facilitate the search for an answer. PICO makes this process easier. It is a mnemonic for the important parts of a well-built clinical question. It is commonly used to identify components of clinical evidence for systematic reviews in evidence based medicine and is endorsed by the Cochrane Collaboration .

In adults in the United States (p), do the physical activity interventions (i) assist adults physical activity levels (o) compared with no intervention (c)

PICO is used to describe the four elements of a good clinical foreground question: P = Population/Patient/Problem - How would I describe the problem or a group of patients similar to mine? I = Intervention - What main intervention, prognostic factor or exposure am I considering?

For that reason this question cannot be considered as a good PICO question as it is not having anything compare and to find out whether the intervention is effective or not
