A potential barrier to the practice of cultural humility is the difference in values of the patient and the provider. Out of the four applications identified by Mosher et al (2017) the application that I found hardest includes the navigation of the differences in values. For example, the patient may have a difference in value as far as the administration of medical intervention is concerned such as the transfusion of blood, especially in the case of the followers of Jehovah’s witness who due to religious reasons decline blood transfusion while the provider may have a difference in values and may think that blood transfusion should be performed to save the life of the patient.
