Which of the following represent reasons to choose gold for an application?

Low density, high strength and wear resistance

Low density, thermal resistance and ability to coat

Strength, biodegradable, and good electrical insulating properties

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Density of a gold is 19.3 g/cm3 . it is oneo f the densest metal on earth

strength is malleeable and ductile material so it is alloyed to increase the strengh of gold

Gold is less affected by corrosion, possess better resistance against formation of corrosion. therefore gold can be used for wear resistance properties.

Gold is good conductor of heat and electricity. therefore gold cannot be used for thermal resistance and electric insulation.

Gold is one of the attractive metal so it can be used for coating other metal which gives asthetic look as well as wear resistance property to base material.

Gold is not bio degradable.

So considering above facts, wear resistance properties and ability to coat, are the reasons to choose gold for an application.
