5) What are the factors that affect the amount of substitutional impurity that can be added to a host material?
As per Hume Rothery rules, there are major four factors that affects the amount of substantial impurity to be added to host material.
(1)- Atomic size : the difference in the atomic size b/w the impurities and host material more than 14% results into lower solubility of impurities in the lattice.
(2)- Electronegativity: it determines how much soluble an impurity is and what type of bond it forms.
(3)- Crystal structure : like crystal structures are considered as more compatible for bonding.
(4)- valancy : metal of lower valancy is more likely to dissolve one of higher valancy.
