maintenance and generation costs are negligible. in wind turbines. why?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Maintenance and generation cost:

In wind turbines the generating power is the natural wind which is free of course hence the main component as in other turbines like in gas turbine and steam turbines , gas and steam respectively are causing lot of money but in wind turbines it's free of cost. It is the main reason that generation cost is negligible . Only money you have to spend in these turbines is for lubricants ,small maintenance and similar small stuffs.

And generally these turbines are designed for the open environment hence these are robust by design and they have very little auxiliaries and controlling circuits so also they require low maintenance cost.

6.8 Modern wind turbines are larger than they appear, and despite their apparently lazy motion, the speed of the blades tips can be quite high-many times higher than the wind speed. A turbine has blades 56 m long that spin at 14 rpm . At the tip of a blade, what is the speed? At the tip of a blade, what is the centripetal acceleration?

The blades on modern wind turbines are typically 20 to 40 meters in length. Two different turbines have their blades attached with one end at the center of rotation. Consider two points, each at the outer end of a blade on each of the turbines: one with a blade length of 20.6 m, and the other with a blade length of 38.4 m. Each blade is rotating with a constant angular speed of 3.73 rad/s, and the rotation is considered...
