Convenants Not to Compete in Employment Contracts:

Agreements not to compete (or non compete agreements) may be included in employment contracts. These agreements stipulate that employees cannot work for competitors or start competing businesses for a specified period of time after termination of employment. Non compete agreements are legal in most states as long as the specified period of time (of restraint) is not excessive and the geographic restriction is reasonable.
