When forests that were previously opened to commercial forestry are now placed in preservation status, there would be some advantages in the form of benefits and some disadvantages in the form of costs.

The benefits are:

(1) Trees would be cut less in the forests so more trees would grow which would in turn preserve the ecosystem of the area, prevent deforestation since the roots of the trees hold the soil and prevent the upper layer from washing away, bring rainfall, clean the area of carbon dioxide and give fresh oxygen in the air.

(2) Preserving the trees would also be one way of the fauna of the region to thrive. It would provide a home where there would be many birds and other wild animals to live and protect them.

The costs are:

(1) The commercial activities done from the resources take from the forests needs to be stopped. This would decrease the natural resources taken for commercial purposes and the supply of these resources would decline in the market.

(2) When the forests were cut down,it provided a large area of land for people to build their homes for them to stay in the forest or use the land for other purposes such as agriculture. This land would not be available if they are now placed in preservation status.
