What’s good about allowing society to follow Adam Smith’s Invisible Hand? In that spirit, people can judge for themselves how much they risk from being exposed to COVID-19, so why should the government get involved with shutting down businesses? Why not let individuals make their own choices?

Adam Smith's invisible hand concept is that market should be free and the invisible factors will automatically bring economy in equilibrium without any external interference.

But the covid 19 condition is more than only an economic problem. It is about society's life and health. If govt doesn't interfere in this then people specially the poor and marginal class will not agree by themselves to stay at home as they will be deprived of their income. The lack of education and awareness will also be a major issue.
